The Importance of Looking After Your Boiler
Your boiler, just like your car, needs to be maintained and serviced regularly. In return, it will last longer and work more efficiently, saving you both money and worry.
In most cases, you’ll find that a new boiler won’t breakdown as often, and if it does, you’ll be under either a 7 or 10-year warranty (providing you’ve been having it serviced).
Ensuring that you service your boiler annually with a gas-safe registered engineer is key to looking after your boiler. A professional will check that all parts of your boiler are running and working correctly, preventing breakdown.
One of the many components that our engineers check is the flue; the outlet for a boiler, where the bad emissions go. To check that your boiler is working properly, we’ll need to get a ration from the flue analyser.
Our team will then check the condense trap, situated at the bottom of your boiler, to ensure that your gas valve is aligned and working in sync.
When you receive a boiler service from us here at Boiler 24-7, we’ll make sure that your carbon monoxide detector is working. If we are installing a boiler for you, we’ll also have a carbon monoxide detector installed.
So what can you do at home to maintain a healthy boiler?
During the summer and autumn months, where you find your boiler is used less, it’s a good idea to keep it ticking. Turn it on for 15 minutes at a time, once a month. This will reduce the chance of boiler failure during heavy use in the winter.
Ensure for your own safety that you are pro-active at checking for carbon monoxide leaks, and should your detector go off, be sure to call a gas engineer right away.
Check your boiler pressure. If too high, you may be adding unnecessary wear and tear to your boiler. You can find the correct pressure levels for your boiler by referring to your manual. If you are still unsure, give us a call.
